Johnny and Joey have been experimenting with balloons in Earth Science class.
They found that if they fill 5 balloons with helium, they can use the balloons to lift 50 pounds. Three of the same balloons filled with hydrogen lift 60 pounds. Ten filled with neon lift 20 pounds.

How many pounds could the students lift with 5 neon, one hydrogen, and two helium balloons?

Email me the answer or give it to me the 1st day back.

Motion in the Solar System

I. Motion in the Solar System
A. Johannes Kepler developed 3 laws of planetary motion we need to
understand:
1. 1st Law of Planetary Motion - all planets have elliptical orbits.
- at aphelion, a planet is its farthest from the sun
- at perihelion, a planet is its closest to the sun
2. 2nd Law of Planetary Motion - the equal area law. An
imaginary line connecting the planets to the sun sweeps
over equal areas of an ellipse in equal amounts of time.
A diagram showing a planet on its elliptical orbit around the Sun. The shaded areas are of equal size, and were swept out in equal time, i.e. it took the same amount of time for the planet to move from A to B and from C to D.
(see diagram below)

II. Solar System Models
A. Geocentric model - earth is the center of the universe. Proposed
by Ptolemy in 140 AD.

B. Heliocentric model - sun is center of solar system. Proposed by
Copernicus in the 1600’s.

Some notes on Antigone

Characters: Oedipus had 4 children with his wife\mother Jocasta. Creon Raised them. He is now the King of Thebes. A civil war breaks out in Thebes and it divided the two brothers.

1. Antigone: A strong willed woman who challenges King Creon.

2. Ismene: Is a loyal adherent of King Creon.

3. Etiocles : A Loyal soldier who defends Thebes & Creon.

4. Polyneices: He Left Thebes for political reasons to form his own rebel army ( in Ar gives) to fight against Creon and Etiocles.

In one particular battle, Argives attacks Thebes and Thebes fights them off and eventually
Argives retreats; However, both Etiocles & Polyneices die on the battle field.

Creon gives Etiocles a proper soldiers burial but makes an edict (law) forbidding anyone to bury Polyneices, under penality of death, because he is a traitor.

Antigone feels strongly that both her brothers deserves a proper burial so their soul will be accepted into heaven and goes against Creon's edict.

Happy Sunday afternnon

My knee is feeling a lot better, I get the results of the MRI this week. Hopefully I did not have a complete tear of any ligaments. I was looking at my web page today and decided to add a widget that will give you additional searching help. I added ANSWER TIPS. Just double click on any word in the blog except the ones from the PowerPoint's, and a pop-up will open with the definition of the word with other related information. I find it to be pretty cool. Check it out.

Here are some words you should know:

1. Africa

2. great rift valley

3. Sahara Desert

4. Niger River

5. Winter Solstice

6. Equinox

7. Summer Solstice

8. Earth's tilt

9. Oedipus

10. Thebes

11. Jocasta

12. Laius

The widget use millions of bits of information from the Internet and then pops it up without opening another browser. NOW REMEMBER THIS DOES NOT REPLACE THE TRADITIONAL METHODS OF RESEARCH LIKE THE DICTIONARY OR OTHER BOOKS.
